Deeply marked by Schiele, Munch and the German expressionists, but also by various inspirations such as ancient or fantastic mythologies, or even Mapplethorpe and Visconti, his work is in constant tension between passion and narration.

If from his beginnings Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle almost naturally claimed his expressionist inclinations, he knows today that through his research as his artistic practice, it is above all a work on memory that he carries out.

Indeed, he never works “live”, he prefers to photograph his model from different angles to choose what interests him in a pose, rather than transcribing the first truth. Even during a performance or in his studio, he stands with his back to his subject, imposing memorization and letting go.

Immediate memory therefore, but also personal memory: by his erratic line, the artist tracks down his memories as intimate subjects like his nocturnal tribulations, his encounters or his loved ones. Fascinated by ancient and fantastic myths since childhood, it is also a work on his own memory that he realizes by choosing to include them in his artistic research.
